Member Spotlight: Cozy Clover Natural Skin Care

cozy-clover-logoMany people enjoy the famous whiskies and beers of Ireland, but not so many take skincare inspiration from it. Enter travel-inspired, North Carolina-based Cozy Clover. Owner/Artisan Christy Osborne relates, “I have been soaping for a number of years but on a trip to Ireland I was inspired to turn it into a business. The natural beauty of Ireland shows through the products produced there through artisans, farmers and crafters. Shopping local is a practice and the norm, and this sense of community was very inspiring for me. We make our products using Irish Whiskey and Irish Stout.”Black-Tie-Brew-cozy-clover

A member of the HSCG for 2 years and in business for 5, Cozy Clover’s careful attention to detail (right down to the mason cash bowls and wooden spoons used to craft products) and Irish influence is apparent. Most of Cozy Clover’s full range of bath and body products features Guinness Stout, Jameson Whiskey, Irish seaweed, heather, or moss. Asked to name a starting place among the plethora of soap, shampoo, deodorant, body butters, balms, scrubs, and facial products, Christy advises lathering up with a bar of her ‘wicked good’ whiskey lemongrass soap, followed up with a generous slathering of the matching body butter.

Christy’s Irish pride shows up online, too. Cozy Clover is all over the web. Find travel tips and Irish inspiration on Cozy Clover’s twitter feed, advance notice of sales and forthcoming batches on their facebook page, plenty of clovers and skin care tips via their pinterest account, short and sweet updates on their tumblr feed, and pictures of all the latest goods via Instagram. If you can’t catch Cozy Clover at a local show, shop online. You’re sure to find a bubbly bar that won’t leave you or your wallet with a hangover.

Thanks, Christy, for taking us inside Cozy Clover’s adventures!

Member Spotlight: Neecy’s Necessities

Welcome to Feature Friday. Today, meet Neecy’s Necessities.

Neecy’s Necessities tag line, “Bliss made beautifully simple” is evident after strolling through the online store. In the shop, you’ll find bar soaps, shaving soaps, balms, body butters, lotions, hair conditioner, hand & body wash, wax tarts, gifts, and even beautiful purses to stash it all in.

Owner Denise Gunter has been running the business five years now. “I’m a curious person by nature”, says Denise, “willing to try just about anything new in order to explore new areas,  so studying up on cold process [soapmaking] after starting with hot process [soapmaking] was fun, then I went into lotion making, then tried lip balms, then moved into liquid soaps and finally cream soaps. I’ve found that it’s yet another creative outlet that gives back something useful (no calories either!), while fostering the love of being artistic, creative and productive.”

It’s no surprise to find out that Denise has a seriously crafty streak. “My goal”, she says, “is to produce the best lathering soap that can possibly be created, one that leaves my skin soft, clean, and lightly fragranced with a scent that doesn’t overwhelm, but teases gently.”

It’s not just the soaps that get Denise’s exacting touch. Body butters are typically heavier than lotions and Neecy’s Necessities stays true to the genre while avoiding heavy, greasy butters. “I’ve crafted a body butter that is whipped up light, creamy and some are lightly exfoliating so rough areas grow smoother over time with use. My hair conditioner and lotion is light, doesn’t clog your pores or leave your hair greasy feeling and can be left unscented or scented to match any of the shampoos or bar soaps we keep in stock.”

You can buy the entire Neecy’s Necessities  line through the website, but that’s not the only way to stay in touch. Visit Neecy’s Necessities blog and facebook page to get previews of every product before they reach the site. You’ll find visual inspiration from Neecy’s pins. Finally, follow Neecy’s Necessities on twitter for the latest and greatest shop announcements.

Black Raspberry Vanilla Hand & Body Wash

If your head is spinning with all the options, you must try hands-down customer favorite ‘Fresh Air’ scented Hand and Body Wash. Denise says customers are “captivated instantly by the fresh clean scent every time!”

As a new member of the Guild this year, Denise appreciates having insurance coverage. “It gives me peace of mind to know that someone has my back in the event that something happens, though I’m hopeful that it’s never necessary to put it to the test.”

Thanks, Denise, for taking us on a stroll through Neecy’s Necessities – here’s to the next 5 years of success!

Member Spotlight: Luxuriously Natural Soaps

Welcome to Feature Friday. Today, meet Luxuriously Natural Soaps.

A frustration with ineffective skincare products and prescriptions for family members with extremely sensitive skin was the original impetus for Luxuriously Natural Soaps. For owner Sonya Black, layoffs in the corporate world were a blessing in disguise. “I began to work full time [for Luxuriously Natural Soaps] and haven’t looked back, not once! I so love it.”

In business four years now, Luxuriously Natural Soaps produces everything one might need for the bath and body, ranging from candles to balms, bath bombs, scrubs, creams, shampoo, conditioner, and of course, the namesake soaps.

Find the Luxuriously Natural Soaps product line on their website and catch the latest and greatest products on Pinterest. If you have the chance, try the body washes, which are made with luxurious, skin-pampering oils. Bar soaps more your style? Sonya grows and infuses herbs into the oils used in her goat milk soaps. Regardless of which products you choose, they’re all made with great care by hand, using the best ingredients possible to minimize risk of irritation.

On the business side, Sonya shares her love of networking within the industry. (You can say hello on the Luxuriously Natural Soaps Facebook and twitter pages.) “There’s so much to share and learn in the world of soaping. I am proud to be a member of the soap guild and member of the Soaper’s Retreat group where I have come to love many friends.”

A member for just over six months now, Sonya had the opportunity to attend the 2013 Conference in Raleigh, which she says has been her favorite membership benefit thus far. “I also enjoy the member discounts. Every bit helps!”

Thanks, Sonya, for sharing some of the Luxuriously Natural Soaps story with us!
