Debbie Chialtas admits it, “I’m a glycerin soap addict.” It’s all she wants to do – make “melt and pour” soap in every way possible! For over 4 years since being pregnant with her first child, she never imagined that she would leave a corporate job in fashion design and make soapmaking become an actual career. She states, “It’s the best thing that has ever happened to me!”

Soapylove was launched in February of 2006. Debbie also opened an Etsy shop that featured her signature item, the soap pop.
Wholesale inquiries came her way, as well as some great opportunities via in the Etsy forums. The best (so far) was being a guest on Craft Lab, a DIY Network show.

Although the pops are her most popular styles, she experiments with lots of different shapes and techniques.

A second blog called The Soap Lab features more progressive designs such as the Typography Soap, recently featured on Trendspotter.com

Debbie began writing and selling tutorials as well, which evolved into her digital magazine, Let’s Get Soapy published bi- monthly.

Most exciting is her book launch this month called Soapylove from North Light Books.

Following the Craft Lab episode, HSMG vendor member, Bramble Berry, invited Debbie to join in at the Soapmaking Weekend Intensive (“SWI”) and then at HSMG member The Nova Studio to teach.

Debbie loves to teach glycerin soap crafting and just taught her third workshop there this weekend!

Debbie is a new member of HSMG who signed up while at the Palm Springs HSMG Conference in May! She states, “I’m so excited to be a part of such a strong community. The enthusiasm was truly contagious while at the Conference and I’m so glad to be involved. I look forward to meeting many of you next year in Denver!” Debbie still makes time to be an active volunteer on the HSMG Social Media Committee.

  1. I love Debbie’s designs that she dreams up with soap. She’s taken melt and pour soap to the ‘next level’ with her latest book and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

  2. Cool member spotlight. I can’t wait for your book to come out (I have mine on order!). Also, I’d love to see that Craft Lab episode. Is it available anywhere on-line? Inquiring minds want to know :o) Keep up the inspiring and trend setting design work – your magazine is awesome!
