Meet LaShonda Tyree, BoD, Chair of PPB Committee of the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild and the owner of Nyah, a Patterson, New Jersey-based natural soap and beauty company. Like so many of us who read this blog, La Shonda began making soap out of curiosity. Later on, she learned that her grandmother, Fannie Logan of South Boston, VA, made handmade soap, too. Needless to say, LaShonda’s curiosity became a passion; after her first attempt at soapmaking, she was hooked!
LaShonda’s full line of bath and beauty products can be found online at www.nyahbeauty.com. In addition to her passion for soap making, LaShonda teaches others how to do the same. Next up on her list of creative endeavors, La Shonda will try her hand at making soy wax candles.
When she’s not whipping up a new batch of soap or teaching a soapmaking class, LaShonda works for a lead generation company, and is very involved in her church where she serves on the Single Adults Group and helps raise money for their scholarship fund. LaShonda also serves on the board of the nonprofit RASP – Residential After School Program for urban youth.
LaShonda joined the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild in March 2001. She has been a Board member since 2004, serving first as Secretary and two terms as HSMG Treasurer. From 2005-2007 she served as Chair of the Guild’s Marketing Committee, and she served as the Conference Committee Sponsor Coordinator for the 2004-2006 Guild Conferences.
