FDA Globalization Act – Update

HSCG BlogIndustry Advocacy & NewsLeave a Comment

The FDA Globalization Act of 2008 is still in the Energy and Commerce Committee. I have been working closely with Donna Maria Coles Johnson of the Indie Beauty Network to draw up a clear statement on our position on the draft and to propose revised wording.

Based on an email Donna Maria received today from the Energy & Commerce Committee staffer assigned to edit the draft, attention is now turning to the revisions for the cosmetics portion of the draft. They have asked for input (a very good thing, indeed!). DonnaMaria and I will be working on our response over the weekend so we can get a final position letter to him by week’s end.

Our basic position is to seek an exemption from the registration and accompanying fee, reporting requirements and GMP compliance for small businesses. That position will be the basis of our proposal.

The Energy and Commerce Committee may finalize their draft during 2008, but are not likely to introduce it as a bill in the House until after the New Year when the newly elected Congress is in place.

I will continue to keep you posted.
